Ketu South NADMO commemorates International Day For Disaster Risk Reduction with tree planting exercise.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region has organised a tree planting exercise to mark this year’s international day for disaster risk reduction.


The programme, was held on Monday October 13, under a national campaign theme:"Fund Resilience Not Disaster."


The exercise focused on environmental sustainability through tree planting and education.



The tree planting exercise saw NADMO officials and pupils from some basic schools in the municipality plant over 1000 tree seedlings at the schools and some  communities. Some of these communities includes Gamadzra, Yame, Lente Wute and some parts of Wudoaba.


The tree species planted included Acacia, Eucalyptus, Neem and Terminalia which were acquired from the Forestry Commission.



The municipal chief executive, Hon. Nicholas Kwabla Worclachie, in an interview with the Fafaa Fm, stated that planting of trees is saving the life of people.


"Planting of trees sustains the ecology of the system. So today marking this important day, we are planting the trees significantly to mark the day and also to serve as a windbreaker and as a means of preventing potential disaster that may occur in our environment" he stressed.


Mr. Ferguson Ahorlu, the NADMO director noted that it is the duty of the NADMO to manage and prevent disaster.



He stated that planting of the trees will prevent unforseen disasters and also beautify the environment 


Mr. Ahorlu emphasised the need for regular tree planting and care in order to preserve and protect the environment as well as reduce pollution and promote biodiversity.


He further underscored the need for heightened environmental education.



He again emphasized that, Educating people on the importance of environmental conservation must be intensified.


He affirmed the NADMO’s commitment to long-term environmental action and work towards a  greener and more environmentally sustainable country.



"This exercise will be an annual event and we will not leave the trees just like that, we will monitor them." He stated.


He urged the general public to also support in caring for the trees planted and be a security over them. He cautioned that anyone caught cutting down trees without taking permit will be severely punished.


"We urge everyone to take care of the trees, no one should cut down a tree without taking permit from the forestry department and whenever a tree is cut down, it must be replaced."

89-year-old Fetish Priest crowned the overall Best farmer for 2025 in Ketu South.

  Torgbui Nuwordu, a fetish priest from Klikor has been crowned the overall best farmer in the Ketu municipal at the  41st National Best Farmers day held on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Agbozume Logove A M.E Zion School park.  He took home a tricycle, 10 cutlasses, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 4 bottles of herbicides, 4 bottles of insecticides, 1 spraying machine, 1 50kg bag of NPK, 1 50kg bag of Urea and a flat screen TV. Torgbui Nuwordu beat 8 other contestants. Government Provides Relief Support to Flood-Affected Irrigation Farmers in Ketu South.

The Government of Ghana has extended relief assistance to 15 irrigation farmers in the Ketu South Municipality whose farms were severely affected by recent devastating floods that impacted several parts of the country. The beneficiaries received assorted relief items, including fertilizers, mattresses, bags of rice, and cooking oil, to help mitigate the impact of the disaster.
