89-year-old Fetish Priest crowned the overall Best farmer for 2025 in Ketu South.

 

Torgbui Nuwordu, a fetish priest from Klikor has been crowned the overall best farmer in the Ketu municipal at the  41st National Best Farmers day held on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Agbozume Logove A M.E Zion School park. 

He took home a tricycle, 10 cutlasses, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 4 bottles of herbicides, 4 bottles of insecticides, 1 spraying machine, 1 50kg bag of NPK, 1 50kg bag of Urea and a flat screen TV.

Torgbui Nuwordu beat 8 other contestants. His scale of operation includes maize 62.5 acres, Cassava 52 acres, Okro 10 acres, Cowpea 10 acres, Chilli Paper 5 acres, Coconut 5 acres, 20 Cattle, 30 goats, 10 sheeps, 10 Turkeys, 20 Guinea Fowls, 20 doves and 175 local poultry

The over 60 years experience farmer receiving his award, thanked the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Nicholas Kwabla Worklatsi and Agric department in the Municipality for the honour.

He used the opportunity to advise everyone especially the youth to take farming serious.

"The youths today don't want to farm, they prefer motor riding to farming. I want to tell them that they can't ride the motor forever" he stated.

He mentioned that the only benefit they can get from the motor riding is get involved in an accident and be at one place or die prematurely.

"To everyone, if you have a small place in your compound, try and plant something to feed at least yourself and your own family" he concluded.

30 years old Mr. Felix Ahiable from Duta was crowned the best youth farmer. Mr. Ahiable has 12 years experience in farming and have 7 acres of maize, 7 acres of Cassava, 2 acres of groundnut, 1 acre of coconut, 1 acre of Mango, 100 pigs, 200 ducks, 10 goats, 8 cattle and 100 local poultry.

Mr. Ahiable went home with a flat screen TV, 5 cutlasses, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 2 bottles of insecticides and herbicides, 1 50kg bag of NPK and Urea and a spraying machine.

The best farmer with disability, Mr Kwabla Zotoo also from Duta went home with a flat screen TV, 1 pair of wellington boots, 3 herbicides, 1 spraying machine, 5 cutlasses, 3 insecticides, 1 NPK and 1 Urea. The 44 years old has 20 years of farming experience.

Somè Senior High School has been crowned the best Senior High School in Agric.

The school has 2 acres of chili pepper, 1 acre of potatoe, half acre spinach, cassava, Okro and groundnut. They were given a table top fridge, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 3 herbicides, 3 insecticides, 1 NPK, 1 Urea, 5 cutlasses and 1 spraying machine

The best fisherman goes to Mr. Robert Bosu of Adina. He has 3 sets of fishing canoes. Mr. Bosu went home with 1 deep freezer, 5 cutlasses and a pair of wellington boots

Mr. Modestus Binson who also works with the Ghana education office was crowned the best livestock farmer. Mr. Binson have 2 acres of maize, 1 acre of Okro, 1 acre of chili pepper, 3,500 poultry/layers, 1,130 Catfishes, 18 goats and 15 grass cutters. He was awarded with 1 deep freezer, 2 dewormers, 2 antibiotics, 5 cutlasses and a pair of wellington boots.

Madam Favour Amevor also given the best crop farmer. She went home with a gas burner oven, 10 cutlasses, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 4 herbicides, 4 insecticides, 1 spraying machine, 1 NPK and 1 Urea

Madam Amevor owns 17 acres of maize, 14 acres of Cassava, 8 acres of Cowpea, 4 acres of Okro,  2 acres of sweet potatoes, 2 acres groundnuts, 32 local poultry, 13 cattle and 31 goats.

Mr. Wisdom Asase was adjudged  the best Agric worker in the municipality. He went home with a table top fridge, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 5 cutlasses, 1 NPK, 1 Urea and a spraying machine 

A 42- year-old, Prosper Hatto was crowned the best vegetable farmer with his 17 years of farming experience. Mr. Hatto owns 4 acres of onion, 2 acres of carrots, 3 acres of lettuce, 1 acre of beetroot, 2 acres of Okro, an acre of habenero, 1 acre of spinach, 2 acres of coconut, 8 goats and 400 poutry/layers.

He went home with a table top fridge, 5 cutlasses 2 pairs of wellington boots, 2 herbicides, 2 insecticides, 1 NPK, 1 Urea and a spraying machine 

This year’s celebration which is under the theme: “ Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the future” is to stress the importance of patronizing locally manufactured foods.

The municipal chief executive, Hon Nicholas Kwabla Worklatsi in his speech commended farmers for their invaluable role in assuaging the impact of the global food crisis on the country. He said an investment in Agriculture which now contributes a lot to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is the sure way to eradicating poverty. He reiterated the government's commitment to make Agriculture a key component in the economy. 

He also urged the farmers to venture into mechanized farming and move away from the indigenous one which largely depends on the vagaries of the weather.

The ceremony was attended by Ghana's ambassador to Togo, His Excellency Captain RTD Nfodzo, chiefs and queen mothers of Somè and Klikor traditional area.
