Caleb Yirenkyi breaks Panamanian hearts with a late winner for Ghana.

The Black Stars of Ghana have secured a 95th dramatic 1- 0 win over Panama in their opening Group L match in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup competition


After a goalless 90 minutes of dramatic football, the Ghanaian International, Caleb Yirenkyi scored the winning goal in the fifth minute of injury time


Thomas Christiansen's side were on top for much of the game and deserved at least a point, but Panama walked away without a point as they have lost all four games they have ever played at a World Cup.



Ghana had their first shot on target in the 45th minute of the game as they endured a dreadful first half. However they were much improved in the second half, with Antoine Semenyo at the heart of everything good, and that was the case as he began the move that sealed the victory late on.


Panama also came close via Cristian Martínez and Ismael Díaz late on, but were unable to find the finishing touch.


With England defeating Croatia 4-2 in the other game in Group L, Ghana move to second in the table, while Panama are currently third. Ghana next face England on June 23, while Panama takes on Croatia later that same day.


Caleb Yirenkyi plays in Denmark for Nordsjaelland. 

The win gives the Black Stars an early boost in their bid to reach the knockout stages.


Ghana is making their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance, having previously featured in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022. Their best performance came in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals.


Panama are appearing in only their second FIFA World Cup after making their tournament debut in 2018 and are still chasing their first World Cup win.


Ghana's Antione Semenyo was adjudged the man of the match.

  Torgbui Nuwordu, a fetish priest from Klikor has been crowned the overall best farmer in the Ketu municipal at the  41st National Best Farmers day held on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Agbozume Logove A M.E Zion School park.  He took home a tricycle, 10 cutlasses, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 4 bottles of herbicides, 4 bottles of insecticides, 1 spraying machine, 1 50kg bag of NPK, 1 50kg bag of Urea and a flat screen TV. Torgbui Nuwordu beat 8 other contestants. Government Provides Relief Support to Flood-Affected Irrigation Farmers in Ketu South.

The Government of Ghana has extended relief assistance to 15 irrigation farmers in the Ketu South Municipality whose farms were severely affected by recent devastating floods that impacted several parts of the country. The beneficiaries received assorted relief items, including fertilizers, mattresses, bags of rice, and cooking oil, to help mitigate the impact of the disaster.
