Somètutu Za 2026: Torgbuiga Adamah III urges unity, youth empowerment and development.

Adafienu (V/R), July 22, – Torgbuiga Adamah III, Paramount Chief of the Somè Traditional Area and President of the Somè Traditional Council, has called on the people of Somè to unite behind a common development agenda while empowering the youth to preserve the area's rich cultural heritage and drive economic growth.


Delivering his address at the launch of the 50th Somètutu Za festival at Adafienu in the Ketu South Municipality on Wednesday, the Paramount Chief said this year's celebration, themed "Harnessing the Potential of the Youth for Socio-Cultural Preservation, Economic Prosperity and Tourism Development to Foster Peace and Unity," recognised the critical role of young people in shaping the future of the traditional area. 


He said the youth must be equipped with education, skills, mentorship and employment opportunities while embracing discipline, hard work and respect for their cultural identity.


Torgbuiga Adamah III urged the people of Somè to rise above political, family and religious differences, stressing that peace and unity were essential for attracting investment and accelerating development. He encouraged citizens to use traditional structures to resolve disputes and contribute their resources, expertise and time towards the progress of the traditional area. 


The Paramount Chief advised the youth to reject drug abuse, crime, fraud and other social vices and instead pursue opportunities in agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, technology and entrepreneurship.


He noted that the Somè Traditional Area possessed significant economic potential in salt production, fisheries and cross-border trade, urging the youth to combine traditional knowledge with modern technology to create sustainable livelihoods. 


On national development, Torgbuiga Adamah III commended President John Dramani Mahama and the Government for the second phase of the Blekusu-Agavedzi Sea Defence Project, describing it as vital to protecting coastal communities from tidal waves and erosion.


He, however, appealed to the Government to complement the project with schools, markets, health facilities, cold storage facilities and other infrastructure to restore livelihoods in affected communities. He also called for urgent intervention to address the prolonged water crisis affecting Agbozume and neighbouring communities, as well as the rehabilitation of roads and improvement of sanitation and other social amenities. 


The Paramount Chief invited local and international investors to partner with the Traditional Council in fisheries, aquaculture, salt processing, agro-processing, tourism, renewable energy, logistics and other sectors, assuring them of the Council's commitment to responsible and mutually beneficial investments. He further urged efforts to promote Somètutu Za as a major cultural tourism event capable of creating jobs and preserving the area's heritage. 


He also appealed to citizens in the diaspora to return home during the festival, invest in their communities and support education, healthcare and youth development.


Torgbuiga Adamah III announced that the Traditional Council would pursue several priority projects over the next five years, including the construction of a modern Traditional Council office complex, educational support programmes, youth skills development, environmental protection and tourism promotion. 


As part of the golden jubilee celebration, he unveiled three flagship initiatives: the Somè Youth Economic Empowerment Initiative, the Somè Salt Industrialisation and Value Addition Initiative, and the Somè Coastal, Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Initiative, aimed at promoting employment, industrialisation and sustainable livelihoods. 


He concluded by calling on all citizens to uphold peace, respect tradition, protect public property and work together to build a prosperous, united and culturally vibrant Somè Traditional Area.

89-year-old Fetish Priest crowned the overall Best farmer for 2025 in Ketu South.

  Torgbui Nuwordu, a fetish priest from Klikor has been crowned the overall best farmer in the Ketu municipal at the  41st National Best Farmers day held on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Agbozume Logove A M.E Zion School park.  He took home a tricycle, 10 cutlasses, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 4 bottles of herbicides, 4 bottles of insecticides, 1 spraying machine, 1 50kg bag of NPK, 1 50kg bag of Urea and a flat screen TV. Torgbui Nuwordu beat 8 other contestants. Government Provides Relief Support to Flood-Affected Irrigation Farmers in Ketu South.

The Government of Ghana has extended relief assistance to 15 irrigation farmers in the Ketu South Municipality whose farms were severely affected by recent devastating floods that impacted several parts of the country. The beneficiaries received assorted relief items, including fertilizers, mattresses, bags of rice, and cooking oil, to help mitigate the impact of the disaster.
