Akonta Felix Akakpo to Supports 300 Ketu South BECE Graduates with SHS Educational Materials.

The Youth and Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Akonta Felix Akakpo, Torgbui Tenuvi II, has finalized the selection of 300 students who participated in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across public and private basic schools in the Ketu South Municipality to benefit from his educational support initiative.

The initiative, which seeks to ease the financial burden on families and support students in their transition from Junior High School (JHS) to Senior High School (SHS), will provide the 300 beneficiaries with student mattresses, trunks, chop boxes and other essential educational materials.

The number of beneficiaries represents a significant increase from the 50 students supported in 2025, demonstrating Torgbui Tenuvi II's commitment to expanding his contribution to education and ensuring that financial challenges do not prevent deserving students from pursuing their secondary education.

Ahead of the 2026 BECE, he sponsored three mock examinations for students in the municipality and distributed mathematical sets to all candidates to help them adequately prepare for the examination.

The pre-examination support formed part of his broader commitment to improving academic preparation and giving students the tools they needed to approach the BECE with confidence.

Torgbui Tenuvi II has congratulated the nearly 5,000 students who participated in the 2026 BECE in Ketu South, particularly those who distinguished themselves with excellent results.

He commended the students for their efforts and expressed pride in those whose academic performance has raised the profile of Ketu South.

The selection of the 300 beneficiaries, he said, was carried out meticulously and equitably across the municipality, covering students from both public and private basic schools.

In collaboration with the Ketu South Municipal Education Directorate, a date will be announced in September 2026 for a formal ceremony to celebrate and honour the selected students before they depart for their respective Senior High Schools.

According to Torgbui Tenuvi II, education and celebration should go hand in hand, stressing that students who work hard and achieve academic success deserve recognition and encouragement.

Parents and guardians of the selected beneficiaries have been urged not to purchase the items being provided under the initiative, as the intervention is specifically intended to reduce the financial pressure associated with the transition to SHS.

The initiative is also intended to complement the Government's Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy by addressing some of the additional costs families face when their children enter SHS.

Torgbui Tenuvi II said the intervention represents a deliberate investment in the human capital of Ketu South and seeks to contribute to the development of a more educated, resilient and productive generation.

He noted that it is particularly painful when a brilliant student successfully completes the BECE but is unable to continue their education because of financial difficulties.

His support, he explained, will continue to be provided both in cash and in kind, with a commitment to monitor the academic progress of beneficiaries to ensure that the intended educational outcomes are achieved.

The initiative is expected to serve as an encouragement to students who will be promoted to JHS 3 when schools reopen, as well as future BECE candidates.

Torgbui Tenuvi II believes that such interventions can motivate young people to take their education seriously while demonstrating that the wider community values their academic achievements and future aspirations.

He called on parents, schools and other stakeholders to work together to build meaningful futures for children, emphasizing that human capital development remains indispensable to the progress of every nation.

He said these efforts are intended to complement Government's continued investment in education and broader national development.

Parents of the 300 selected beneficiaries have been requested to submit their wards' first-choice Senior High Schools to their respective school heads on or before close of work on Tuesday, August 26, 2026.

The intervention by Akonta Felix Akakpo, Torgbui Tenuvi II, adds another layer of community support to the educational development of young people in Ketu South, building on his pre-BECE mock examinations and distribution of mathematical sets and now extending support to students as they take the next step in their educational journey.
