David Tiahno Quarshie Cautions NPP National Leadership Over Declining Fortunes in the Volta Region.

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ketu South, David Tiahno Quarshie, has appealed to the national leadership of the party to urgently intervene in what he describes as a worrying decline in the fortunes of the NPP in the Volta Region.


In a press release dated Saturday, August 29, 2026, titled “Caution Statement on the State of NPP in the Volta Region,” Mr. Quarshie said his concerns were motivated by his love for the party and a desire to prevent further deterioration of its electoral fortunes in the region.


According to him, the NPP made significant progress in the Volta Region in the 2016 general elections, recording 15.35% of the presidential vote under the leadership of then Regional Chairman Hon. John Peter Amewu.


He, however, noted that the party's performance declined to 8.8% in the 2024 general elections, which he attributed to the period under Regional Chairman Makafui Woanya.




“This steady decline should be a wake-up call to all of us,” Mr. Quarshie stated, warning that continued internal challenges could weaken the party's structures in the region.


Mr. Quarshie also raised concerns over recent developments surrounding appointments within the Volta Regional NPP structure.


He cited an August 26, 2026 press release purportedly issued by Regional Chairman Makafui Kofi Woanya announcing appointments of regional officers, followed by a disclaimer from Regional Secretary Shabanton Moses Kwesi Dutsrogbe declaring the appointments null and void.


According to Mr. Quarshie, the disclaimer indicated that there had been no official meeting of the elected Regional Executives to consider or approve the appointments.


He argued that such disagreements publicly expose administrative weaknesses and could further undermine confidence in the party's leadership.


The former Ketu South parliamentary candidate further pointed to developments involving the party's youth structure.


He referenced a statement issued on August 27 by Volta Regional Youth Organiser Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu, distancing the party from individuals allegedly presenting themselves as TESCON Coordinator for the region without an official appointment.


Mr. Quarshie said the need for official party structures to publicly disown purported appointments was a worrying indication of what he described as a “severe breakdown in discipline and unity.”


In his recommendations, Mr. Quarshie urged party leaders to allow the NPP Constitution to guide their actions, stressing the importance of fairness, inclusiveness and the rule of law.


He also called for unity among all stakeholders, including former executives, Members of Parliament, Parliamentary Candidates, TESCON, women and youth, to work together toward rebuilding the party in the Volta Region.


“Volta Region can bounce back. We have the people, the message, and loyal patriots ready to work,” he stated, while emphasizing that the party could only recover if its members “do the right thing, the right way.”


Mr. Quarshie consequently appealed to the National Council, National Executive Committee (NEC), and National Executive to intervene and help restore the Volta Regional NPP to what he described as the right path before it is too late.


He ended the statement with a call for the continued strength of the party, declaring: “Long Live NPP! Long Live Volta NPP!”


Mr. Quarshie is identified in the statement as the 2020 Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP for Ketu South. A web search also surfaced a recent NPP-related post identifying him in that capacity.

Government Provides Relief Support to Flood-Affected Irrigation Farmers in Ketu South.

The Government of Ghana has extended relief assistance to 15 irrigation farmers in the Ketu South Municipality whose farms were severely affected by recent devastating floods that impacted several parts of the country.
