KETU SOUTH YOUTH ACTIVIST AND NDC VICE CHAIRMAN ASPIRANT PETITIONS POLICE OVER ALLEGED HARASSMENT, EXTORTION OF TRADERS.

A youth activist in the Ketu South Municipality and aspiring Vice Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ketu South, Dan K. Jerry Sorokpo, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Volta Regional Police Commander and the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, over alleged harassment and extortion of traders by some police officers operating along the Aflao–Accra highway.


Mr. Sorokpo, who is also seeking to play a leadership role within the governing NDC in the constituency, says the alleged incidents have raised concerns among traders and other road users who depend on the highway to transport goods between communities and major trading centres.


In his petition, the youth activist is calling on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and take appropriate action if any police officer is found to have acted unlawfully or abused his or her authority.


He stressed that while the police have an important responsibility to maintain law and order and ensure public safety along the highway, such duties must be performed in a manner that respects the rights, dignity and livelihoods of ordinary citizens.


Mr. Sorokpo is also urging the authorities to pay particular attention to the experiences of local traders who, he claims, may be vulnerable to intimidation because of their dependence on the highway for their daily economic activities.

He believes an independent and transparent investigation will help establish the facts surrounding the allegations and, where necessary, restore confidence among traders and members of the public.


The NDC Vice Chairman aspirant further appealed to the leadership of the Ghana Police Service to strengthen supervision and accountability among officers deployed along major highways, while ensuring that legitimate police operations are not compromised.


The petition comes amid calls for improved relations between law-enforcement agencies and communities, particularly in Ketu South, where commercial activities and cross-border movement constitute an important part of local economic life.


Mr. Sorokpo has therefore called on the IGP, the Volta Regional Police Command and the Volta Regional Minister to treat the matter with urgency and ensure that any officer found culpable is dealt with according to law.


The allegations contained in the petition have not been independently established. The police authorities are expected to investigate the claims and provide their response and side of the matter.

  Torgbui Nuwordu, a fetish priest from Klikor has been crowned the overall best farmer in the Ketu municipal at the  41st National Best Farmers day held on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Agbozume Logove A M.E Zion School park.  He took home a tricycle, 10 cutlasses, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 4 bottles of herbicides, 4 bottles of insecticides, 1 spraying machine, 1 50kg bag of NPK, 1 50kg bag of Urea and a flat screen TV. Government Provides Relief Support to Flood-Affected Irrigation Farmers in Ketu South.

The Government of Ghana has extended relief assistance to 15 irrigation farmers in the Ketu South Municipality whose farms were severely affected by recent devastating floods that impacted several parts of the country. The beneficiaries received assorted relief items, including fertilizers, mattresses, bags of rice, and cooking oil, to help mitigate the impact of the disaster.
