Blekusu Assembly Member Organises Educational Forum for 475 Students.

The Assembly Member for the Blekusu Electoral Area in the Ketu South Municipality, Hon. Raphael Nukamewor, in collaboration with headteachers of basic schools in the area, has organised an educational talk forum aimed at inspiring students to make responsible choices and improve their academic performance.

The forum, held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Blekusu R.C. Basic School, was held under the theme “Your Choice Today, Your Life Tomorrow” and brought together 475 students from the four public and private schools within the electoral area.

The speakers included Dr. Bismarck Ledzi Gbologa; Madam Deladem Ella Mensah, an educationist and journalist; Pastor Godwin Agbodzi, a teacher and instructor; and Mr. Dumegah Bismarck Kosseme, a retired Navy officer. Headteachers, teachers and the Assembly Member, who are all natives of Blekusu, also participated in the programme.

Speaking at the forum, Dr. Gbologa urged the students to always remember their background and consider the consequences of their decisions before making choices.

He emphasised that the choices students make today would significantly shape their future, and therefore encouraged them to resist peer pressure, remain focused on their studies and work towards building a better future.

Madam Deladem Ella Mensah also stressed the importance of making positive choices, noting that decisions taken today could determine the opportunities available to individuals tomorrow.

She cautioned the students about the irresponsible use of social media, advising them to be mindful of what they post and share online.

According to her, activities on social media could have consequences in the future, whether they were positive or negative.

Pastor Godwin Agbodzi told the students that their future would largely be shaped by the choices they made at their current stage of life.

He expressed concern that if young people failed to take their education seriously, the country could face challenges in producing responsible leaders in the years ahead.

He therefore urged the students to devote themselves to their studies and strive for academic excellence.

However, Pastor Agbodzi advised students who might face challenges academically not to give up, but rather consider learning practical skills or trades that could provide them with sustainable livelihoods in the future.

He also encouraged the students to choose their friends carefully and distance themselves from peers who could negatively influence their lives.

Mr. Dumegah Benedict Kosseme, a retired Navy officer, urged the students to avoid indecent dressing and conduct themselves responsibly.

He encouraged them to listen to their teachers, parents and other people in authority, stressing that respect, humility and hard work were essential qualities for anyone aspiring to achieve their dreams.

Hon. Raphael Nukamewor, the convenor of the programme, said the main objective of the initiative was to address poor academic performance among students in the Blekusu community and encourage them to take their education seriously.

He noted that the performance of the schools in this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) was not encouraging, a situation he said required collective action from parents, teachers, community leaders and other stakeholders.

As part of his commitment to improving education in the area, Hon. Nukamewor announced a scholarship package for students who excel in the BECE.

He said, beginning next year, any student from the electoral area who obtains a single aggregate grade in the BECE would receive a full scholarship package to support their education at the senior high school level.

He appealed to citizens of Blekusu, individuals and other well-wishers to support initiatives aimed at improving education and securing a brighter future for the community's young people.

Hon. Nukamewor announced that the educational forum would become an annual programme to be organised during every academic year.

As part of the event, the Assembly Member also donated exercise books to all 375 participating students to support their studies.

The teachers and students expressed their gratitude to Hon. Nukamewor and the speakers for investing their time and resources in mentoring and encouraging the young people.

The students, in response, pledged to put in their best academically and conduct themselves responsibly to secure a brighter future for themselves and make Blekusu proud.
