CORNELIUS KUNYA EYES NDC KETU SOUTH COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER POSITION.
Mr. Cornelius Yao Kunya, the current Treasurer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ketu South Constituency, is seeking to become the party’s next Constituency Communications Officer in the upcoming internal elections scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026.
Mr. Kunya is one of two aspirants cleared to contest the Communications Officer position, alongside Mr. David Doe. The official vetting and balloting results placed Cornelius Kunya at No. 1 on the ballot. A total of 73 aspirants have been cleared to contest various executive positions, with 2,963 delegates expected to vote.
A teacher by profession, Mr. Kunya has also been active in the NDC’s communications activities over the years. He has participated in radio and television discussions, representing and defending the party’s positions on various issues.
His campaign profile further highlights his involvement in the party’s communication efforts during the 2024 general election, where he says he played a vital role in the NDC’s campaign activities.
Mr. Kunya has served as the constituency’s Treasurer since the previous executive elections. Records from the 2022 Ketu South NDC elections list him among the elected constituency executives as Treasurer.
According Mr. Kunya proposed communications agenda is built around strengthening the party’s media presence, improving coordination and equipping communicators at the grassroots.
His campaign proposes a 24-hour rapid response team to provide timely and factual responses to misinformation and counter narratives affecting the party.
He also seems to promote coordinated communication across the constituency, with all electoral areas operating within an integrated communications network.
Mr. Kunya proposes a C4C Communication Bureau comprising experts who would provide research, analysis and policy advice to strengthen the party’s communication.
His campaign messages proposes increased visibility across radio and other media platforms with the aim of ensuring the party’s message reaches communities across Ketu South.
His another key proposal is the creation of a coordinated digital communication structure covering platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok and other digital channels, with emphasis on rapid content production and online mobilisation.
Mr. Kunya’s campaign also proposes semi-annual training programmes to equip branch communicators with communication skills and capacity for effective grassroots engagement.
His campaign promises emphasis on professionalism, discipline, loyalty and integrity among members of the communications team.
Mr. Kunya's bid therefore represents a move from his current role as Constituency Treasurer into a position focused primarily on media relations, public messaging and coordination of the party’s communications structures.
The Ketu South NDC election forms part of the party’s wider 2026 internal reorganisation exercise. The official constituency election date was changed to October 23. The adjustment was made because of the final funeral rites of the late Torgbui Addo VIII, Paramount Chief of the Klikor Traditional Area.
With Kunya and David Doe cleared for the Communications Officer race, delegates will determine who takes charge of the constituency's communications machinery for the new executive term.
Kunya’s campaign message is centred on: “To Defend, To Project, and To Unite for Better Communication in Ketu South,” with the broader objective of building a coordinated communications structure spanning the constituency, branches, traditional media and digital platforms.
